When it comes to summer wear, I’m all about chic pieces that can be easily mixed and matched to create different looks. From the classic white shirt to a great pair of distressed denim, there are a few staple pieces that I always make sure to have in my summer wardrobe.
1. White Shirt: A classic white shirt is a staple in my wardrobe year round. For summer, a lighter-weight version like this under $15 version is a no-brainer. I layered it over a lace bralette for a slightly sexy vibe. Unbuttoning a few buttons gives an overall more relaxed feel to a button-down. 2. Statement Wedges: These Chloe wedges have been on repeat since I purchased them. I bought the Marc Fisher ones last summer and I wore them so much that I decided to splurge on the real thing this season since I knew I’d get plenty of wear out of them. I actually wore them at BottleRock last week. Wearing them to an outdoor music festival probably isn’t the best idea, but this festival has turf everywhere so I figured they wouldn’t get dirty. The first night we stayed super late and when we were walking out in the dark I stepped in a pile of mud. One of my wedges was completed covered and we had to walk three blocks to get an Uber. Long story short, a good hour later we were finally back at the hotel and Phil threw both of my wedges in the bathtub (we figured there was nothing to lose). I was convinced it was a lost cause, but when we woke up the next morning they had dried and looked brand new again. If that story isn’t reason enough to justify why high quality designer items are worth the splurge sometimes, I don’t know what is!
3. Leather Belt: This Gucci belt is one of my favorite accessory purchases of 2016. I wore it so much I actually got messages from people asking me to switch it up so I took a break from it on my blog for a while, but it’s a new season and it’s still in style so I brought it back out. One of the areas I really believe in splurging on designer items is leather goods. You can just tell a quality leather item from a cheaper one and more importantly, quality leather goods last forever! I get a lot of questions on sizing of this belt – I’m wearing a size 70 and I can wear it around my waist and hips on the last loop. I typically wear a 24 in jeans so I originally bought the smallest size (a 65), but that would only work as a high-waisted belt. 4. Denim Cut-Offs: If you’ve been to my blog or Instagram before, you already know how much I love distressed denim. In the summer, I trade in my jeans for shorts. I love cut-offs with distressing for an easy, casual feel. When I shop for shorts I always look for a rich wash, perfectly placed distressing and the right length. This season, I’m all about higher-waisted shorts. These exact ones are now sold out, but these are very similar. 5. Chic Shades: Another obsession of mine is great sunglasses – I can rarely say no! This Celine pair is still one of my favorite pairs in my closet. I love the flat-top style and gradient lenses. I always try to have a pair of non-aviator style sunglasses in my summer wardrobe. I tend to buy a lot of aviators which are great for casual looks, but a more structured resin or plastic pair feel dressier to me. I also found this great dupe if you want to try the trend, but aren’t ready to splurge just yet. xo, Maria
