Over-the-knee boots have been a staple in my wardrobe for years now, and I’m always looking for different ways to wear them. They’re such a great investment because you can create so many different outfits whether you want to dress up or down. I love how sexy yet sophisticated they look with fall layers – and I know I can always resort to them when I’m not in the mood for pants. For many people, these boots can be intimidating to wear in real life, so I wanted to share 10 easy ways to wear over the knee boots this fall.

1. Go for a monochromatic effect
A monochromatic outfit is my go-to for an instantly chic effect. I love pairing sweater dresses with boots in similar tones then completing the outfit with a statement coat. This combination always make an outfit feel more pulled together. If my outfit feels uninspiring, I’ll reach for another layer, such as a fedora or scarf.
Burberry Poncho (available in my shop here, similar here) | ASTR Turtleneck Sweater (wearing an XS) | Michelle Mason White Leather Skirt (on sale now – wearing a o0) | Gucci Velvet Bag | Stuart Weitzman Over-The-Knee Boots (run TTS) | Givenchy Sunglasses
2. Style it with a poncho & fitted turtleneck
When you don’t want to feel too weighed down by heavy layers, throw a poncho over a turtleneck top or sweater dress. The addition of over the knee boots always makes this outfit feel ultra feminine and chic. Be sure to keep your base as form fitting as possible since the poncho adds a good amount of volume.
Burberry Trench (wearing a US 0 in ‘Honey’ color, better for budget here) | Similar Gray Sweater Dress | Stuart Weitzman Over-The-Knee Boots (on sale now! also love these)| Givenchy Antigona Bag | Saint Laurent Sunglasses
3. Throw a trench coat over a sweater dress
One of my favorite fall outfits is a sweater dress paired with over the knee boots and a classic trench coat. It’s a dressy attire that’s cozy too. You can wear it for a quick coffee date or while grabbing drinks with the girls.
Revolve Lovers + Friends Sweater (wearing an XS) | Revolve Lovers + Friends Plaid Mini Skirt(wearing an XXS) | Saint Laurent Sunset Bag (medium size) | Celine Sunglasses (better for budget here) | Kendall + Kylie Boots (similar here and here)
4. Pair it with a mini skirt and knit top
There’s nothing better than a classic mini skirt and over the knee boot combo. I’ve been gravitating towards plaid and tweed mini skirts lately – they add a chic vintage vibe to an outfit when paired with tall boots. They surprisingly keep my legs pretty warm too.
Topshop Camel Coat (sold out, similar here) | Gucci Belt (wearing a size 70 – read my “Gucci Belt Sizing Guide” HERE) | Free People Tunic (wearing an XS) | Gucci Bag | Celine Sunglasses | Stuart Weitzman Over-The-Knee Boots (on sale now! also love these)
5. Slip it on underneath a belted coat
Sweater dresses and over the knee boots are a foolproof combo, but sometimes, it can feel too basic after a few wears. You can liven it up by adding a coat and cinching it at the waist with a belt. I love the layered effect it creates.

6. Keep it casual in denim and cozy pieces
For a casual chic outfit that’s perfect for the weekends, pair your boots with skinny jeans, a slouchy sweater, and plaid scarf. You can create so many different versions of this look by simply changing out the wash of your denim or trying a fun, printed sweater.

7. Add some edge with a shearling moto jacket
I’ll sometimes wear my tunic sweaters as a dress and then add shearling moto jacket to glam it up. I love the contrast of cozy comfort with structured edge. This pairing is great for late fall when temperatures come close to freezing. If needed, you can always add sheer tights.

8. Elevate a slouchy sweater
Slouchy sweaters are one of my favorite things to wear, but it can be tricky to make this piece feel a bit more elevated. One of my styling tips is to add a leather skirt and pull on some over the knee boots for a downtown chic ensemble.
Burberry Scarf | Gucci Bag (sold out, similar here and here) | Similar Red Sweater Dress | Stuart Weitzman Boots | Kyi Kyi Beanie | Saint Laurent Sunglasses
9. Try a matchy matchy ensemble
Over the knee boots are also great for tying matchy matchy outfits together. As much as I love neutrals, I’ll sometimes switch it up with bold, bright colors. You’ll often see me pair a red sweater dress with a red beanie because it’s so fun and festive. This look is perfect for the holidays too.
Balmain Blazer (better for budget here) | Similar Sweater Dress | Gucci Marmont Crossbody Bag (larger size here) | Mango Snakeskin Over-The-Knee Boots (sold out, similar here – better for budget here) | Karen Walker Sunglasses (better for budget here)
10. Printed OTK Boots & Blazer
On days when I have no clue what to wear, I’ll turn to a pair of printed over the knee boots. Snakeskin is one of my favorite trends and it always adds the right amount of texture to anything. Adding tailored pieces like a blazer or wool coat will help tone down the super trendy boots.
