Budget Friendly Holiday Style Tips

It’s no secret by now that I have my fair share of designer goods, but I truly feel that the best outfits incorporate a mix of high and low brands. Since this time of year can be expensive for everyone, it’s important to be strategic about your wardrobe so you don’t spend too much on holiday outfits. I’m excited to be partnering with Walmart today to share some of my budget friendly holiday style tips that will allow you to create the perfect high and low look.
Walmart’s recent partnership with Lord & Taylor allows you to seamlessly mix everyday brands with more premium ones like DKNY, Calvin Klein, BCBG and more. The combination of the two categories brings us so many great styles right now, I honestly had a hard time narrowing down my outfit to just one for the blog. With the holidays coming at us fast, it’s great that Walmart also offer all shoppers free 2-day shipping for most orders of $35 or more, which means you can get those must-have pieces in time for Christmas. If you’re in need of budget friendly holiday style tips, scroll ahead.
1. Save on layering pieces like everyday basics
In the winter, the hardest part of getting dressed for the holidays is finding the balance between layering for warmth and staying fashionable. So I love stocking up on really great basics from Walmart’s everyday assortment to build the foundation of my holiday look. Garments like a simple turtleneck sweater, leggings, or long sleeve tops will help you stay warm this winter. You can build on these pieces by wearing them under a dress or pairing them with jeans and a festive scarf.
2. Splurge on versatile designer pieces
With so many parties to attend around the holidays, it’s easy want to use each one as an excuse to buy a new outfit. And while I’d love to dream about various holiday outfits, the reality is it isn’t practical. I’ve learned that I can stretch my outfits by splurging on a few versatile designer pieces that elevate any casual holiday look. For instance, a tunic sweater that can also be worn as a dress – or a stylish coat. This allows me to create fresh outfits without totally overspending my budget. I opted for a casual winter look here that combines a basic sweater with a DKNY puffer jacket that makes the outfit look so expensive. Walmart’s mix of everyday and premium brands gives you the best of both worlds when shopping online.
3. Wear fabrics that look expensive
One of the things I’ve learned over the years is that fabric can make an outfit look more expensive than it actually is. If you’re wanting to play on the high-low look, definitely keep fabric in mind. Tweed, cotton, and plaid often look expensive even if the price tag isn’t. I love that Walmart has tons of plaid scarves and other accessories that make a relaxed outfit stand out for the holidays.
4. Incorporate one major trend
Not only do I love outfits that mix high and low brands, but also ones that pair classic pieces with trendier ones. Walmart’s partnership with Lord & Taylor makes shopping the season’s top trends so exciting! One of the best ways to keep your holiday outfit within budget is incorporating only one major trend into your look. Walmart is a great resource for this because of the premium brand offerings and selection of trend-forward pieces. I’m a huge fan of the lace up boot trend right now which completes my casual holiday outfit.
Having the ability to shop affordable everyday brands in conjunction with higher-end designer labels is truly game changing. As someone who is constantly mixing high and low pieces together from different brands, Walmart makes shopping for a stylish but casual holiday look a breeze.
