The Best Wardrobe Pieces To Invest In

When it comes to building an optimal wardrobe, there are definitely certain pieces that are worth investing in. For instance, staples that transcend time and live on in your wardrobe year after year. Every now and then, I do cave into trendier, more affordable buys, but overall, I gravitate towards better quality items as much as I can. And I always buy pieces that I know I’ll get a lot of wear out of. I’ve learned through the years that splurging a little more actually helps you save in the long run. So today on the blog, I wanted to discuss the best wardrobe pieces to invest in.
Coats
If you live in a city where temperatures can drop below freezing in the winter, a high quality coat is definitely something worth investing in. I have my fair share of trendy outerwear, but when it comes to staying warm, it’s all about the right material. A few coats I would recommend investing in are a trench coat for wet and gloomy days, a camel coat that goes from day to night, and a heavyweight parka when it’s just too cold outside.
Sweaters
Sweaters are definitely something worth investing in because they add a layer of warmth. I recommend investing in more expensive fabrics like cashmere and wool because they’re warmer than affordable fabric blends. They will also last forever as long as you take care of them. Costs for cashmere are especially higher because they comes from the soft underbelly of goats and can take more than two goats to craft one sweater!
Blouses
Another ageless piece I always wear is my silk blouse. Slinky, feminine blouses are always on trend no matter what time of the year it is. You can pair it with jeans during the day or with trousers for a day at the office – and it always keeps you pulled together.
Cocktail Dresses
I also like to spend a little more on cocktail dresses because the fit and details make a huge difference. Typically, cocktail dresses can easily be turned into a casual or formal look, so I don’t feel bad about allocating a little more budget here. The simple addition of a few layers or a change of shoes makes this dressier piece wearable anytime.
Evening Gowns
Getting all dressed up for a night out is something I always look forward to, and I love the look of a floor-length gown. So I believe they’re totally worth the splurge – but only if you’ll wear them again. When investing in evening gowns, I try to stick with a classic color and silhouette that I know won’t look dated over the years.
Handbags
When it comes to investing in my wardrobe, you guys already know that handbags are one of my biggest focuses. Given that I rotate my bags so often, each investment has been worthwhile. I love investing in designer bags because they last forever and they hold their value really well if you want to resell them down the line. They’re also one of my favorite accessories for looking expensive and chic.
Shoes
Just like a good coat is quintessential to my wardrobe, so are high quality shoes. There’s no denying that designer heels are expensive, but they always hold up so much better and longer than more affordable styles. Plus, the right designer shoes can really make any outfit stand out. I love my Christian Louboutin So Kate Pumps because they’re sexy yet classy. I’m prone to investing in designer pumps because I know I’ll get the most wear out of them.
Trousers
Trousers are a must-have in my wardrobe because they’re so easy for transitioning from office to night out. For me, the right trouser is all about the tailoring. When picking out the perfect trouser, make sure they’re not see-through – and make sure the length is suitable for your height. This will help elongate your legs and flatter your figure – even if you’re shorter like I am.
Suits
You only need a couple great suits to make a great impression. Since I never know when I’ll have an important business meeting that requires a suit, I always like to keep a few on hand that I can wear at a moment’s notice. And with power suits being all the rage, you can really maximize their wear by styling them as separates or pairing them together.
All of the aforementioned pieces are things I am constantly re-wearing every season no matter what trends come and go. Knowing I continually go back to these, I have determined these are my most worn pieces. Investing a little more into luxury or high quality versions of each is definitely worth it since I can continue to wear them far into the future.
